OUR STORY
BIG BLUE began long before it had a name.
Twenty five years ago, I went diving for the first time with my friend Matthew. I loved it immediately and what started as a new diving experience quickly became a lifelong obsession with the ocean and everything beneath its surface.
Since then, diving has become a huge part of my life. I went on to become a commercial diver, while Matthew and I continued to spend as much of our free time as possible underwater — travelling the world in search of some of its most incredible sharks, whales and rays.
From warm tropical waters and remote shark-diving destinations to the much cooler seas around the British coast, we've been fortunate enough to experience very different sides of life on and under the water.
Eventually, I settled in Lyme Regis on the Dorset coast with my fiancée, Sophie, a fellow diver who shares that same love of the sea. We had our son, Jacques — named, of course, after Jacques Cousteau — and the ocean has naturally become part of our family's life too.
These days, when we're not travelling, you'll usually find us somewhere along the Dorset and Devon coast — diving amongst the local marine life, heading out on the boat, exploring the coastline and, occasionally, bringing home a few hand-dived scallops for supper.
FROM DIVING TO BIG BLUE
Over the years, one thing kept coming back to us.
We wanted clothing and diving equipment that genuinely reflected the life we lived.
Something equally at home on a boat in the sunshine as it is on a cold morning on the Dorset coast. Products that performed properly, looked considered and felt premium — without losing the character and sense of adventure that drew us to diving in the first place.
That idea became BIG BLUE.
We began working with carefully selected specialist manufacturers and technical partners to develop products that met the standards we wanted for BIG BLUE. From materials and construction to colour, branding and finishing, every decision is considered with one simple question in mind: would we genuinely want to wear or use this ourselves?
From that idea came our three clothing collections — BIG BLUE, ONE OCEAN and JACQUES — alongside our development of premium diving equipment designed for the places and conditions we actually dive.
Each has its own identity, but they all come from the same place.
A lifelong fascination with the ocean.
A love of exploration.
And the belief that the things we wear and use around the water should be every bit as considered as the adventures we take them on.
